Once upon a time, there was a kitty named Lacey. She lived with her loving, kind mom Misty, and her totally adorable little sister Smoky.
One day, at the YCS School For Cats, there was a new girl in class named Puffy. Even though Mr. Bootsie (their teacher) introduced her to the class, nobody sat next to her at lunch or played with her at recess. Lacey saw how lonely Puffy was, and she wanted to become Puffy’s friend, but there was one problem. Lacey was in a “clique” called the Pretty Committee, and they didn’t want Puffy (or anyone who was “different”) in their group. Lacey really wanted to get out of the Pretty Committee, but she was too nervous to speak up. The leader of the Pretty Committee, Ginger, was a girl who (unfortunately!!!) bullied other cats who were “different”, and she pressured the members of the Pretty Committee to do it, too!
The next day, Lacey told Ginger that she didn’t want to be apart of the Pretty Committee, and Ginger got really mad.
“I can’t believe she just told us that!” she told her friends, Arietta, Bridgit, Fluffy, and Melody, later that day.
“Maybe she just had a bad day or something.” suggested Arietta.
“No, it couldn’t have been a bad day.” Melody replied. “I can always tell if she enjoys it in the PC or not, and I think she really wants to go her own way now.”
When Lacey got home, she shouted “Hi Mom!” to Misty, ran into her bedroom, closed the door, and turned her High School Musical 2 CD on. She started singing Gotta Go My Own Way from the CD.
♫♫ I’ve got to move on and be who I am,
I just don’t belong here, I hope you understand,
I might find a place in this world someday,
But at least for now, I’ve gotta go my own way. ♫♫
The next day, at lunch, Lacey spotted Puffy sitting alone at one of the tables, so instead of sitting with her friends, she walked over and sat next to Puffy.
“Hi.” she said.
“Hi.” Puffy responded.
“I was thinking…” Lacey said, “Do you want to become friends?”
“Yes!” Puffy answered. “I definitely want to become your friend!!!”
Suddenly, Lacey found a bright coloured purse sitting next to Puffy.
“That’s a really cool purse!” she told Puffy.
“Thanks. It’s actually a CD player.”
All of a sudden, Your Biggest Fan from the JONAS L.A soundtrack started blaring out of the hidden speakers on the purse. The Pretty Committee turned and gave Puffy and Lacey a strange look.
“Um…didn’t you get my Trend And Style Guide Of The Week email, Lacey?” Ginger asked. “Nobody listens to Jonas Brothers anymore.”
Lacey was about to say something, but Puffy said it instead. “We have the right to listen to the music that we want to, and I have loved my collection of Jonas Brothers CDs since, well, I got my first CD from that band, in 2008.”
“Pretty Committee, walk away from this table, please.” Ginger told Arietta, Bridgit, and Melody. They walked away.
After school, Lacey walked home with Smoky (who was in the 1st grade), and Smoky asked “Why are you so sad, Lacey?”
Lacey responded with “I’m not sad! Why would you think that I am sad?”
“Well, because you don’t look very happy right now.”
When they got inside the house, Lacey ran into her room, closed the door, and turned her newest CD, The Clique soundtrack (from the movie), on, and as the song Find My Place blared out of the speakers, she felt happier than she did earlier that day.
♫♫ How did I end up here
One of the cool kids this year
What a surprise now
‘Coz all that I am feelin’ is kinda weird
I, I’m tryin to find my way, try to find my place
I, I’m tryin to find my way, try to find my place ♫♫
That Saturday, Lacey went over to Puffy’s house to hang out with her, but when she got there, Ginger was there!!!
“Hey, Lacey.” Ginger said. “You know, that outfit is not really on the Trend And Style Guide Of The Week email that I sent you.”
“Don’t worry, Puffy whispered into Lacey’s ear, I think your outfit is cool!”
“Thanks.” Lacey whispered.
“Lacey, this picture is one that I drew, and I hope you like it. It shows off my amazing drawing skills that I learned from Art Class.” Ginger interrupted. Then, she showed Lacey and Puffy the picture. It was a picture of Lacey, but Ginger had drawn huge pimples all over her face in the picture, and it wasn’t very nice at all.
“I have to go now.” Lacey said abruptly. “Bye.” Then she ran back to her house, crying.
When Lacey got into the house, Misty noticed that something was wrong. Her daughter was crying.
“Lacey, tell me what’s wrong.”
“No, you won’t get it.”
“Lacey,” Misty said, “Please tell me what’s wrong.”
Lacey ran into her room and sat on her bed. Misty came into her bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed, too.
“What happened?” Misty questioned.
“It’s Ginger and the Pretty Committee. They’ve been bullying me, when I told them that I’m not a member of the Pretty Committee, and Ginger has been pressuring me to bully other students at the School For Cats, and she’s been getting me to change my personality, my interests, my outfits, my hairstyles, everything!!! And today, Ginger showed me this drawing she made of me, but it wasn’t very nice at all!” Lacey explained in between sobs.
“Oh, sweetie, this is terrible!” Misty replied. “How long has this been happening?”
“Ever since I got out of the Pretty Committee.” Lacey answered.
“Be yourself, Lacey, not who everyone else wants you to be.” her mom told her.
The next day, Lacey went up to the Pretty Committee, and told them, “I am really not going back in your group now. I mean it. And I’m convincing one person from the group who understands to come out of the group with me. Melody, will you become friends with me and Puffy?”
“Definitely!” Melody responded. “Bye, Pretty Committee!”
Melody and Lacey met up with Puffy, and Lacey said, “I’m sure glad that the bullying is over now. And I’m especially glad that I have totally awesome friends like you guys.”
Suddenly, a flashlight went off in Lacey’s head. “Ok, BFFs on 3. Ready? 1, 2, 3”
“BFFS!!!” The 3 of them shouted at the same time.
