Carly Rae Jepsen: The LIVE Concert Experience

I have always been a fan of Carly Rae Jepsen, from her first audition on Canadian Idol until now. I remember watching her performances on Canadian Idol and thinking ‘She’s really awesome! I think she’ll make it big in the music industry!’ She was in 3rd place on the 5th season of Canadian Idol.

A few years later (in 2009, I think), I heard a song on the radio. It was called ‘Bucket’. I really liked that song at the time (and I still really like it to this day), and I didn’t know it was by Carly Rae Jepsen. My mom asked me if I remembered her from Canadian Idol (to which I replied ‘no’, because I didn’t remember seeing her on Idol). She then told me that Carly was on the 5th season of Idol, but she was eliminated.

Last year, she released ‘Call Me Maybe’, which received frequent airplay on several radio stations. I declared that song ‘my absolute favourite song of 2011’ when I heard it. Then, I learned she was gonna release an EP in February of this year! It was gonna be called ‘Curiosity’. Fast forward to February 2012. I purchased the album, and I love it!

About a week before the concert, I was listening to Kool 101.3 FM, and they mentioned something about a concert. Not just any concert…  a concert featuring Carly Rae Jepsen! I was really excited, and after a lot of research, I found out where it was gonna be. Lloydminister, Alberta. Only 2 hours from where I live! (*insert screams of excitement here*)

On Wednesday, July 11th, I got to experience my first real concert. The drive to Lloydminister took around 2 and 1/2 hours… we left Ashmont at 3:00 pm, stopped for pizza in Lloydminister, and the concert started at 9:00. I have 3 words to describe the concert: It. Was. AWESOME!!!!! I didn’t take very many pictures, but I did get several videos!

Favourite parts about the concert:

• When Carly said that she was gonna perform ‘Curiosity’, and I screamed, “I LOVE THAT SONG!” (LOL!)

• When she performed ‘Call Me Maybe’ at the end of the concert… I don’t think anyone knew it was Call Me Maybe at the beginning, because she started with an introduction that wasn’t in the original version of the song, and THEN she sang “Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy, but here’s my number, so call me maybe…“. At that point, everyone started screaming!

Set list: Tug Of War, Curiosity, Bucket, Money and the Ego, Angels (I think that’s what the song was called), ‘Guitar String Wedding Ring’ (NEW SONG!!!), Sour Candy, Dear Julien, Call Me Maybe
