One thing I know for sure is that Iggy Azalea (best known for her song, “Fancy”) and Beyonce lead the nominees with EIGHT nominations each, while Eminem is behind them with seven.
There will be a lot of performances on Sunday. During the pre-show, British singer-songwriter Charli XCX will be performing “Boom Clap” from the soundtrack to The Fault in Our Stars. X Factor alums Fifth Harmony are also expected to perform their new song, “Boss.”
During the main show, former Nickelodeon star (and highly successful pop star) Ariana Grande will perform “Break Free.” Later on, Jessie J and Nicki Minaj will join her to perform their new song “Bang Bang.” Both songs are off Ariana’s sophomore album, My Everything, scheduled for release next Monday.
Other performers include Australian boy-band 5 Seconds of Summer, Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora (performing “Black Widow”), Maroon 5 (performing “Maps”), Sam Smith (performing “Stay With Me”), Beyonce, and Taylor Swift.
For months, we’ve known that Taylor is performing at the VMA’s this year. But what song is she performing? That question has been on our minds for the longest time, and I think we’ve finally figured out the answer. Earlier this week, the country-turned-pop superstar revealed her new (somewhat-controversial) single, “Shake It Off,” via a Yahoo live stream event. I think she will be performing her new song at the awards on Sunday.
Stay tuned for the second part of my VMA post series; The Nominees!
