Well, as the Backstreet Boys said in their 2012 Christmas song, “It’s Christmas Time Again!” Seriously, I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by, and it’s already the middle of December. In a few short weeks it’ll be CHRISTMAS!
So it’s time for me to share my list of all the things I’ve been loving over the past few months 🙂
Sephora Rouge Creme Lipstick (in R49 Belly Dancing)
eos Lip Balm in Sweet Mint
Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation (which they have apparently discontinued. Why is it that just as I start to actually get into a product, they discontinue it? Oh well… more opportunities to experiment with makeup, I guess!)
Nicole by OPI Selena Gomez in the shade Scarlett
Jerome Alexander 1 1/2″ ceramic curling iron
Elf (Even though I’ve seen this movie at least once every year for the past 9 years, it still remains one of my personal favorites. It’s pretty much the only Will Ferrell movie I like)
The Santa Clause trilogy
Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House (Omarosa Manigault-Newman)
String Theory – Hanson (Yes that’s right, the band that sang “Mmmbop” in 1997. They just released a new album and it’s amazing! Been on rotation in my CD player the past few weeks along with their two Christmas albums, which have also been added to my Favorites list this holiday season!)
“My Only Wish This Year” – Britney Spears
“Merry Christmas Happy Holidays” – N*SYNC
Half of Mariah Carey’s 1994 Christmas album, Merry Christmas. Aside from the obvious favorite, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” there are about 3 or 4 other songs I like from the album. Listening to those songs, there’s no denying that Mariah could SING at the time. Unfortunately, the rest of the album isn’t that great in my opinion, and I understand why it had never been opened when I bought it from a thrift store several years ago (I wasn’t kidding; the first time I went to listen to it last year, the CD case was still wrapped in plastic as if I’d just bought it from Sunrise Records!).
“Something About Christmas Time“ – Bryan Adams
Time of Our Lives – Brynn Elliott.
When this rising star’s first single, Might Not Like Me initially came out, I remember I couldn’t stand the song. There was just something about it… maybe it was the over-synthesized pop music sound that had been taking over the radio airwaves for the majority of the past few years. But then in late September, I was listening to an interview with SiriusXM’s alternative-pop channel The Pulse, where she performed a few songs as well as talked about the inspiration behind her new EP, Time of Our Lives. Not only does Brynn write her own songs, she also can really sing! The first thing I said when I heard her acoustic performance was, this girl reminds me of Michelle Branch circa 2003.
So I listened to the EP, did some further research… and am now a fan of her music! The lyrics are well-written, mostly about her experiences in college over the last few years. And although it’s not my usual first choice for music, the dance-pop sound actually works… it’s got that commercial appeal, while still having awesome lyrics that you might not find in a lot of other Top 40 songs. But other than the music, what really impressed me was that although Brynn is a relatively new artist, she’s toured with numerous artists/bands over the years… including Alanis Morissette, Brandi Carlisle, Grace Potter, and Switchfoot. (She even opened for Hanson at a concert they did in Williamsburg, VA recently!) Needless to say, her music will be going on my playlist for sure! 5/5 stars

Alright, I think that wraps up my Favorites list this time around. I’m taking the next couple of weeks off for Christmas and New Year’s, so this is going to be my last post of 2018. With that, I just wanna say MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
